As noted by <a href=\"https:\/\/vancouver-future.com\/en\"><em>vancouver-future<\/em><\/a>, the value of medical institutions is extraordinary. Generally, the older the hospital, the more experienced its staff, as &#8220;treatment secrets&#8221; are passed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, if a particular medical institution has developed its own concept for treating specific illnesses, it becomes the hallmark of the entire hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this article, based on sources including <em>arthritis.ca<\/em>, <em>oipc.bc.ca<\/em>, <em>cbc.ca<\/em>, and <em>vch.ca<\/em>, we discuss a Vancouver medical institution renowned for its unique treatment approaches. Additionally, the hospital conducts extensive scientific research, significantly advancing medical science. This is achieved thanks to its diverse departments and structural subdivisions, each with its own specialization. This variety greatly enhances the hospital&#8217;s capabilities, which is a key factor for patients. This Vancouver hospital is one of the largest in Canada, admitting 116,000 patients annually. The facility comprises 1,900 rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its staff includes 9,500 medical professionals, alongside 1,000 volunteers who play a vital role in its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 2005, the hospital\u2019s annual budget was $463 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Foundation_of_the_Institution\"><\/span>Foundation of the Institution<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The history of this Vancouver hospital dates back to 1993 when the Vancouver General Hospital merged with UBC Hospital. It is closely affiliated with the University\u2019s Faculty of Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its components include the Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, despite its comprehensive range of services, the hospital does not include obstetrics or pediatrics. These specialties are handled by the Women\u2019s Health Centre and the Children\u2019s Hospital, located nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Details_on_Its_Components\"><\/span>Details on Its Components<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Vancouver General Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UBC Hospital was established in 1968 through donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its structure includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An emergency care department<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A surgical observation unit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An extended care unit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A temporary care unit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A psychiatric department<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The UBC Hospital specializes in emergency medicine, general surgery, reconstructive orthopedic surgery, psychiatry, and gerontology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hospital features eight operating rooms and employs 800 staff, including 270 doctors and 450 nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Centers_Programs_and_Clinics\"><\/span>Centers, Programs, and Clinics<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the hospital offers access to specialized clinics, centers, and programs, all part of its structure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Bladder Treatment Centre<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Movement Disorders Clinic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Sleep Disorders Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Multiple Sclerosis Clinic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Cognitive Disorders Clinic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Breast Reconstruction Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Mental Health Centre<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Surgical_Procedures\"><\/span>Surgical Procedures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The hospital\u2019s Centre for Surgical Innovation was established in 2006. Annually, the Centre treats about 17,000 patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Brain_Research\"><\/span>Brain Research<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brain Research Centre was established in collaboration with the university\u2019s Faculty of Medicine and the Vancouver Research Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its team includes 200 researchers with multidisciplinary expertise in neuroscience. The Centre also organizes specialized youth programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1949, the Centre is named after Dr. George Frederick Strong. Its staff includes 800 employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_%E2%80%9CHome%E2%80%9D_for_Individuals_with_Disabilities\"><\/span>A &#8220;Home&#8221; for Individuals with Disabilities<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The George Pearson Centre was part of the Vancouver hospital system from 1995 to 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This facility serves as a residence for 120 individuals with severe disabilities, providing necessary care, treatment, and balanced nutrition. All procedures are conducted with the consent of patients\u2019 families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1952, the Centre was initially established to provide long-term care for tuberculosis patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1938, an auxiliary women\u2019s unit was created, which later became part of the George Pearson Centre in 1965.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This comprehensive history demonstrates the vital role Vancouver General Hospital plays in Canada\u2019s healthcare system.
